Boris Becker is a German former World 1 professional tennis player. He was successful from the start of his career, winning the first of his six major singles titles at age 17. He is still the youngest Wimbledon Champion ever, and the first person to win Wimbledon twice before the age of 20.
His Grand Slam singles titles included three Wimbledon, two Australian Opens and one US Open. He also won five year-end championships, 13 Masters Series titles and an Olympic gold medal in doubles. In 1989 he was voted the Player of the Year by both the ATP and the ITF.
His famous nicknames were “Boom Boom”, “Der Bomber” and “Baron von Slam” thanks to his fast and well-placed serves!
After retiring from his tennis career in 1999, Becker became the principal owner of the tennis division of Völkl Inc, a tennis racquet and clothing manufacturer, became a published author with his autobiography Augenblick, verweile doch….
Became a team captain on the British TV sports quiz show, They Think It’s All Over.
Becker also launched an online media platform called Boris Becker TV and since 2003, he has been a commentator for the BBC at Wimbledon.
